Vintage Bridal Inspiration: Lauren

When we found this Emma Domb vintage wedding dress on Craigslist a few months ago, we could feel it had it’s own story behind it. Somewhere several decades ago, an anxious girl had worn this dress as she sat getting ready for the most special day of her life. Her future husband perhaps paced back and forth as his heart fluttered with some wedding-day butterflies, but he smiled as he thought of his beautiful bride-to-be and how much he’d anticipated this day. Perhaps they were high school sweethearts, now grown into adults.

The dress was union-made, quality workmanship for that era. I’m sure our vintage bride smiled when she finally saw herself in the mirror, and her heart skipped when she thought of how her fiance would look at her when he finally saw her, and how she’d blush.

After the wedding, the dress was carefully cleaned and packed away – a piece of history tied by emotional tears and joy to the story of the happy couple who had shared their first love the day this dress was worn. Now we needed to recapture the story again, and tell it with pictures ..

Then we met Lauren. A girl who could retell this story of love, hope and joy with her face and beautiful eyes. Someone who could again bring life to this dress that came from a time of depression, but yet also was worn with great joy and anticipation by a girl around her age, over 50 years ago.

We hope it will inspire you too.

We began at our good friend Leslie’s Arrowhead Farm, a small goat farm In Selma, NC. Leslie uses her fresh goat’s milk to craft delicious smelling and easy-on-your-skin soap. We decided the handmade goat milk soap would make wonderful wedding favors for our styled shoot.

We used vintage handkerchiefs as napkins …

We found some lovely light for the next photos ..

Is she a bird taking flight? Or just a stylish fashionista? Either way, it’s one of my favorite photos from the day.

The light here .. goodness.

Lauren, you are gorgeous!

Some more of my favorites …

Of course, some of the goats had to be included. The little kid below had been born that morning .. he was so cute!

Jane Austen, step aside. We just wrote a new period romance using no words, and just pictures  ..

The peacock feathers added an awesome touch to the hair and makeup work done by Donnie from IC Beauty.

The photo below is my favorite from the day.

No period wedding could be complete without the nostalgia of a horse, so we made arrangements to have one included in our shoot as well.

Lauren looks so fabulous in this photo!

The horse had the most amazing blue eyes, as you can see above!

Lauren, you were the perfect person to help us tell this story, and you are amazing! Donnie – thank you for being fabulous as always with the hair and makeup styling. Leslie and Rebecca – for letting us take over your farms and (hopefully) entertain you by mixing our fashion into your rustic :) Angie and John, for being our trusty helpers!
